Chapter 6

Violet is haunted by nightmares. She tries to hide from them by listening to music and trying to stay awake. She has to go back to school and over and over Violet is being asked about the dead body at the lake. Violet knows she isn't ready to talk about it yet and Jay tries to help by holding her hand in the hallway and not talking about it. Then comes more news. Another dead girl has been found. Could it be the creepy guy again? The girl at the lake has had a proper burial and Violet is now at peace, "Until the next girl vanished." What is going to happen now?

Watching

Where's Waldo?
Eeeeew! The creepy guy is back. He is standing around watching everyone go into chaos at the lake.  He is proud of himself and his "work". The bad thing about him is that he blends in with people,"never realizing that he was standing among them". He won't be easy to find, but I hope that the police do catch him.He is looking at all of the girls that showed up for the party and considers them applicants for his next crime. I'm sure he'll strike again, will it be his last kill?

Chapter 5

After finding the body in the lake, Violet is surrounded by police and firemen. They bring her both comfort and torment. She feels safe with them there, but these people are much more likely to have an echo attached to them because of their line of work. Her parents try to comfort her anyways, after having thrown up twice and now sitting at the back of an ambulance with an itchy blanket around her. She and Jay had to give their account of how they found the body. Violet relied on the words, "Coincidence. Chance," They were the only way to explain what had happened without giving away her secret. But even through all of the madness, Violet finds the time to admire Jay. As he gets into her uncle's police car for a ride home, he finds himself asking if he can turn on the siren, which Violet thinks to be adorable. She rides home with her dad and she begins to tell him what happened. She starts crying and her dad comforts her by saying he is sorry about what had happened and how her parents had tried to discourage her from using her skill when she was little, but nothing did. She has to accept this "skill" and learn to work around it.

Chapter 4

Violet goes to a party at the cove with Jay and meets up with Chelsea. EVERYONE came and there isn't a shortage of girls to trail Jay like ducklings. Ignoring the others, he eventually asks violet to go for a ride with him on a jet ski. Violet gets her life jacket and drives the jet ski into the cove with Jay sitting behind her. They start to come back to the dock after a while in the water until Violet starts driving in a different direction. She doesn't notice it right away, but she  is being pulled toward an echo. "It had the same greasy sheen as oil, casting a rainbow of hues across the plane of the water,"  and she drives closer to it. Jay starts to wonder what she is doing when she gets off of the jet ski and jumps into the water. By the time he finds out what she is doing , Violet sees the bloated body of a dead girl in the water and freaks out. Jay has to drag her out and get help.

Chapter 3

Violet can't sleep tonight. She is worried about her relationship with Jay and her cat's echos are bothering her so she decides to go for a run in the woods (the same place she found the body?) to get away from everything. By the time she comes home, Jay is sitting in her driveway. He asks to go for a walk together and she leads him back to the woods. They started talking about a party and Jay gives her a smile catching her off guard and she trips over a root scraping her hands and knees. Jay picks her up to carry her home but she is a little stubborn and tells him to put her down and he does. She had hoped he would insist on carrying her but he grabs her hand instead. "She didn't argue." He does carry her up the back stairs of her house and sets her on a counter though. Jay cleans off her scrapes and bandages them for her. She likes how he is taking good care of her."She admired his patience and took perverse pleasure in his touch." She hopes that she can get over this crush so they can get back to normal, but where's the fun in that?

Chapter 2

Oh no! More girls at school are trying to get Jay's attention, "following him around en masse."I hope he's not interested because I would feel so bad for Violet if he was. Also, this chapter explains that Violet can feel echos coming from not just the dead, but from the murderer. When her cat comes around her she is overwhelmed by all of the echoes that he carries from the animals that he has killed and, "the smell was coming off him in nearly visible, rippling waves, like heat coming off the desert sand.  She tries getting away from her house for a while and goes to babysit her cousins. After she puts them to bed there is a knock on the door and guess who it is...it's Jay! They sit on the couch together and watch a movie, but they soon start to play around and wrestle. Jay pins her down and Violet's aunt and uncle find them like this! But all they say is to keep it down and not wake up the kids. Vi is really disappointed by their reaction to the situation. She thinks that even they couldn't possibly see them together.

PREY

This chapter freaked me out!  It's in the point of view of a guy and he is stalking girls in order to capture them! It goes through his whole thought process while searching for one. Then he does,"She was alone. Young and pretty, and alone." He talks to her and tricks her to come near his car and he can tie her up and throws her in the trunk! He tells the woman that he won't harm her, but I think he is lying. I was not expecting anything like this to happen in the book, but I hope there is more, it makes for a very interesting and exciting read.

Chapter 1

Characters!!! Violet is the main character of the book and picture1 is what I think she looks like. Jay is her best friend (and crush), he is picture 2. And last but not least, Chelsea, who is also Violet's friend, picture 3.

This chapter is a big contrast to the previous one. In this chapter, I found out that Violet has a crush on her best friend Jay! I was so happy for her when she realized that her feelings for him had changed from "friends" to "more than friends". But all of the other girls at school seem to feel the same way. I'm rooting for Violet though! I think that something really good is going to happen between them despite the competition!
